Carb Addiction

Posted: February 3, 2012 in Uncategorized

Carbohydrate addiction is a major obstacle to starting any new dietary approach.  This was evident from talking to the participants that were present at my seminar last night.  It is tough in the beginning and staying motivated and avoiding temptation can be difficult.  Studies have shown carbohydrate addiction is very similar to drug addiction in our neurotransmitter responses.  I felt it was important to try to offer up a solution.

Start by creating a list of the top 5 reasons why you want to start eating healthier.  This can be to cure symptoms of illness, lose weight, set an example for your children, etc.  Find out what is important to you.  Write these down and memorize them.  Everytime you get cravings for those bad foods recite those five things out loud, or to yourself.  It can help change your focus back to the positives you are trying to accomplish by eating a paleo diet.  Try it out and let me know how it works!
